HC Deb 02 July 1947 vol 439 cc1293-4
13. Air-Commodore Harvey

asked the Postmaster-General what arrangements exist for repairing telephones at Marple on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Postmaster-General (Mr. Wilfred Paling)

Marple is part of the Stockport maintenance area. One engineering workman is scheduled to attend throughout Saturday to repair telephones in the area. Owing to pressure of work, he is at present assisted by two other workmen on Saturday mornings. On Sundays, telephone repairs are undertaken on an emergency basis by calling out an engineering workman on "stand-by" duty from his home.

Air-Commodore Harvey

Will the right hon. Gentleman undertake to increase these services, because professional men, hospitals and nursing homes are getting inadequate service with regard to the repairing of telephones?

Mr. Paling

If these people are not receiving an efficient service, I will certainly look into the matter.
