§ 54. Mr. Cooperasked the Minister of Food the figures for manufactured meat allocated to the undermentioned towns, calculated per head of the population: Northampton, Leicester, Darlington, Derby and Middlesbrough.
§ Mr. StracheyI can give approximate figures only of the amount of meat issued to manufacturers who are actually situated in these towns, and it must be remembered that some manufacturers deliver their products over a very wide area.
The weekly figures are: Northampton, 119 lb.; Leicester, 138 lb.; Darlington,.157 lb.; Derby, 130 lb.; Middlesbrough, 151 lb. They do not include the trimmings from rationed meat, which general butchers can use for making meat products.
§ Mr. CooperDoes not my right hon. Friend agree that calculations show some discrepancy between various towns, and will he review the matter with a view to seeing that those towns with heavy industries are not placed at a disadvantage compared with other towns?
§ Mr. StracheyYes, Sir, we have just reviewed this allocation, as my hon. Friend knows, and Darlington and Middlesbrough have benefited, as these figures show.
