HC Deb 02 July 1947 vol 439 cc1315-6
45. Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Minister of Defence how many free warrants a year for leave from Germany are given for unmarried Service men; and how many for married Service men and their wives.

The Minister of Defence (Mr. A. V. Alexander)

Two free warrants a year for home leave are given to all members of the Services stationed in Germany except married men accompanied by their families, who are not entitled to leave in the U.K.

Mr. Dodds-Parker

Can the Minister of Defence say why they are not entitled to leave to the United Kingdom; and would not it be equitable to give them the two free warrants which they may use for themselves and their wives?

Mr. Alexander

They already have privileges over other people in having their families with them in Germany In addition to which they get two local leave warrants up to within 100 miles of their station.
