§ 14. Mr. Douglas Marshallasked the Minister of Works whether he is aware that the U.S.A. are using bamboos to build houses, for framing timbers, rafters, sidings, floors and partitions; that a forest can be produced in three years; that there is already a plantation of consideable size at Lanivet, Cornwall; and whether he will go into this matter to see if its development could help to solve the timber shortage.
§ Mr. TomlinsonI have no information on the use of bamboo in the U.S.A. for house building. I am advised that there is little scope for its use as a practicable substitute for timber as used in house construction in this country, but if my hon. Friend will let me have any details of construction in this material in his possession I will have them examined.
