HC Deb 27 February 1947 vol 433 c2259
26. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if the boilers, switch-gear, transformers and all other products that require to be manufactured have been ordered for the turbines already ordered; if they are being given super priority; what is the position with regard to the power stations; and if they will be ready for the plant.

Mr. Shinwell

Orders have been placed for boilers, switchgear, transformers, and other equipment required for use with the turbines already on order. High priority in labour and materials is being given. Work on the power station buildings is in hand, and it is expected that they will be ready for the plant.

Mr. R. S. Hudson

Can the right hon. Gentleman say why high priority was withdrawn a short time ago?

Mr. Shin well

High priority is affected by other considerations.

Mr. Hudson

Then the right hon. Gentleman admits that high priority was withdrawn?

Viscount Hinchingbrooke

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether any orders have been placed in the United States for equipment of this type?

Mr. Shinwell

I am not aware of any
