§ 13. Mr. Wyattasked the Secretary of State for War what is the amount of the monthly payments made by the Government to General Anders by way of personal salary; from what funds are these payments made; how long is it proposed to continue the payments; and what is the purpose of the payments.
§ Mr. J. FreemanLike other Polish officers and soldiers still in the Polish Land Forces, who served the Allied cause well during the war, General Anders is receiving the pay and allowances of his rank (£88 12s. a month) pending arrangements for his resettlement. The payments are made from Army Votes.
§ Mr. WyattAs it has now been established that General Anders is the head of a private army, which has no statutory authority, is it not about time that this payment was discontinued?
§ Mr. StokesIs my hon. Friend aware that the General Officer Commanding in Italy considered that we could not have. 967 won the war in Italy without the help of General Anders? Is it not a pity that such personal matters should be raised in this House?
