HC Deb 10 February 1947 vol 433 cc20-1
41. Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is now in a position to make a statement on the subject of the display on L.P.T.B. property of the poster advocating nationalisation of electricity.

The Minister of Transport (Mr. Barnes)

The exhibition of these posters was contrary to the practice of the Board and they were taken down as soon as the Board became aware of this breach of their rule.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Can the right hon. Gentleman tell the House whether these posters were taken down before a Question with regard to them appeared on the Order Paper of this House? And can he also tell the House whether a poster put forward by the electricity companies denouncing nationalisation was refused exhibition at the same time?

Mr. Barnes

I cannot make any statement with regard to the refusal at a particular time. I have given the hon. Member the decision with regard to the practice of the Board, and his Question undoubtedly did draw attention to its use.
