HC Deb 06 February 1947 vol 432 cc1946-7
25. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Minster of Health whether any changes in the subsidies to local authorities for houses built by them are contemplated after 30th June, 1947.

Mr. Bevan

I am not yet in a position to make any statement.

Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when he may be in a position to do so, because time is very short, and local authorities want to know their position as soon as possible?

Mr. Bevan

I am about to undertake discussions with the local authorities.

Mr. Walker-Smith

Does not the Minister agree that, with building costs as they are, unless the rents are to be raised, the subsidy will have to be raised?

Mr. Bevan

I do not agree.
