HC Deb 06 February 1947 vol 432 cc1941-2
29. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that many nurses and sisters are anxious to undertake training midwifery but are unable to do so because of the financial burden or loss involved; and whether means will be considered to render financial assistance to those willing to undergo this training.

Mr. Bevan

The salary of a State registered nurse taking her midwifery training is £85 plus full residential emoluments, and I have no evidence that this is insufficient to produce an adequate number of pupil midwives.

Mr. Sorensen

If I give the right hon. Gentleman evidence will he consider it sympathetically?

Mr. Bevan

Certainly, Sir.
