§ 10. Lieut.-Colonel Sir Thomas Mooreasked the Assistant Postmaster-General what is the reason for the poor reception in the west of Scotland, and Ayr in particular, of the Third Programme of the B.B.C; and what steps he is taking to improve matters.
§ Mr. BurkeThe reason for the B.B.C.'s Third Programme not being heard well in some parts of the country, including that to which the hon. and gallant Member refers, is the shortage of suitable wavelengths. The B.B.C, are considering remedial measures.
§ Sir T. MooreSurely the hon. Gentleman is aware of the growing popularity of the Third Programme so why, therefore, should Scotland, and Ayr in particular, have to suffer from what I understand is Russian interference from Latvia?
§ Mr. BurkeIt is not only Scotland that has to suffer. Many parts of the country have not been able to get the Third Programme in the way we desire. I agree with the hon. and gallant Member that it is an admirable Programme.
§ Sir T. MooreWhat is the hon. Gentleman going to do about it?
§ Mr. BurkeThe B.B.C. are considering a number of projects which they hope will give greater cover.
§ Sir Waldron SmithersIs it not a fact that Russian interference is responsible for all our ills?
