Mr. Spearmanasked the Minister of Defence if he is aware that the Admiralty, the War Office and the Air Ministry 1768 each propose to requisition land in the neighbourhood of Scarborough; and, as this will seriously interfere with the developments and amenities, if he will arrange for a more equitable distribution of this burden.
§ Mr. AlexanderThe requirements of the Service Departments in this neighbourhood are at present being examined by the Inter-Departmental Committee, under the Ministry of Town and Country Planning, which is carrying out the review of Services land requirements generally. Full consideration is being given to the effect of any proposals on local developments and amenities.
§ Mr. SpearmanWill the right hon. Gentleman do his best to see that the great attractions of Scarborough do not cause her to suffer unduly embarrassing attention from the Service Departments?
§ Mr. GallacherWould the Minister of Defence make it his business to persuade the Government to take over the whole of the land and allocate it to the best purposes?
