HC Deb 05 February 1947 vol 432 cc1759-60
35. Mr. Bossom

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation if he will require all passenger-carrying aircraft flying under Government direction to be fitted with an approved means of communication with the ground.

Mr. Lindgren

All passenger-carrying aircraft of the three corporations are already so equipped. Recommendations of the Provisional International Civil Aviation Organisation that will require all passenger-carrying aircraft to carry such means of communication are now under consideration.

Mr. Bossom

What action is being taken to ensure that they are fitted with this suitable apparatus?

Mr. Lindgren

As far as concerns aircraft under the control of the Corporations, that is complied with. In the case of aircraft outside their control, the matter is one for international regulation and national regulations arising from P.I.C.A.O. recommendations now being considered.

Mr. Bossom

But what action are the Ministry taking, since people are being killed daily?

Mr. Lindgren

The regulations will be enforced when they are agreed.
