§ 51. Mr. Bingasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how the sum of £225 millions given in Table 3 of the balance of payments account in Command Paper 7099 as the sum spent on net military expenditure abroad during 1946 is derived; what is the corresponding figure for the first six months of this year and what he 1189 estimates the corresponding figure is likely to be for 1947.
§ The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. Glenvil Hall)The figure of £225 million is a net figure after allowing for heavy receipts on account of sales of stores and fixed assets. The comparable figures on the same basis would be £44 million for the first half of 1947 and £75 million for the whole of 1947, but I must emphasise that these are net figures after allowing for disposal receipts.
§ Mr. BingCan my right hon. Friend give the gross figure of the estimated military expenditure abroad for this year?
§ Mr. Glenvil HallApproximately £207 million.
