§ 46. Sir W. Smithersasked the Minister of Agriculture if he has considered the details, which have been sent to him, concerning increased production in the poultry industry; and if he will make a statement of Government policy in this matter.
§ Mr. T. WilliamsI have read these proposals with interest. As they have been published they will no doubt be considered by the national poultry organisations. I am ready to consider any representations from those organisations about these proposals or in regard to the general welfare of the poultry industry.
§ Sir W. SmithersIn view of the fact that the promoters of this scheme have 979 put forward concrete proposals, will the Minister undertake to have a conference or a meeting with these people, together with his advisers so as to see what can be done over the whole country?
§ Mr. WilliamsImmediately the poultry industry requests a meeting I shall be quite ready to consider the matter.
§ Mr. Skeffington-LodgeAre the buff and white Orpingtons affected by what the hon. Member opposite has said?
§ Sir W. SmithersIn asking the Minister to ignore that question, may I urge him to take the lead and to give serious consideration to the proposals put forward?
§ Mr. WilliamsI have already explained to the hon. Member that the moment the poultry organisations have had time to examine the proposals, which are very comprehensive and could not fail to require a major Parliamentary Measure, I shall be very happy indeed to meet them.
