HC Deb 28 April 1947 vol 436 c1538
51. Mr. Vane

asked the Minister of Agriculture by what approximate percentage he considers the cost of planting, establishing and maintaining young plantations has increased since 1939.

Mr. T. Williams

In view of the difficulties of re-introducing accurate cost accounting, which had to be suspended during the war, the Forestry Commission cannot give very precise figures for these costs. It is estimated, however, that their costs of planting, establishing and maintaining plantations have increased since 1939 by between 110 per cent. and 115 per cent.
