HC Deb 28 April 1947 vol 436 cc1685-7
Mr. Barnes

I beg to move, in page 77, line 8, after the second "section", to insert: and the section of this Act (Right to require acquisition of undertakings providing port facilities). Hon. Members will notice that this Amendment is very similar to one which I moved earlier in regard to compensation to local authorities. Later I shall move a New Clause which will determine this process of acquisition of undertakings providing port facilities. This is s preparatory Amendment.

Mr. Maclay

I understand that earlier this evening a discussion took place on a similar proposal to that now moved by the Minister. Unfortunately I was unable to be present in the Chamber at that time I should like to get it made clear at what point we can go fully into the implications of this Amendment and the new Clause. A certain number of questions must be asked. There was discussion to a certain extent earlier, but the answers were not fully satisfactory, or did not give all the information required. I should like to have advice on whether it would be best for me to pursue these matters now, or on the introduction of the new Clause.

Mr. Barnes

I suggest that the best occasion for the hon. Member to raise these points would be on the new Clause.

Mr. Maclay

Can the Minister give an assurance that we are going to reach the new Clause?

Mr. Barnes

Yes, I can, because it is a Government Amendment.

Amendment agreed to.
