HC Deb 17 April 1947 vol 436 c334
49. Mr. Swingler

asked the Minister of Labour if he will explain the means whereby he calculates that the number of male domestic servants in Britain is relatively small.

Mr. Isaacs

Some information on this matter was obtained from registrations under the Registration for Employment Order during the war. This suggested that the number of male indoor private domestic servants was then under 25,000 and there is no evidence that there has been any substantial increase since the end of the war. The number so employed at the Population Census of 1931 was less than 38,000.
