HC Deb 17 April 1947 vol 436 c336
54. Mr. Erroll

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why he refused an exchange licence for £70,000 to enable the British Aluminium Company to complete, at their works in Norway, a project for the manufacture of a special product which cannot be made in England.

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. Glenvil Hall)

This decision has already been reconsidered in the light of further information, and the application has been allowed.

Mr. Erroll

Was it supplied by the company, or did the Minister think it up for himself?

Mr. Glenvil Hall

The matter was looked at again in consultation with the Departments concerned—that is the Departments other than the Treasury—and it was then thought it would be a reasonable thing to grant it.

Mr. Erroll

Why did they not make the right decision in the first place?
