asked the President of the Board of Trade the average weekly consumption of newsprint by newspapers and periodicals for August, 1939, and June, July and August, 1940.

Mr. Belcher

I regret that no separate figures are available for August, 1939, but the average weekly consumption of newsprint for the 12 months ended 31st August, 1939, for newspapers and periodicals respectively, was 21,000 tons and 1,750 tons. With my hon. Friend's permission, I will circulate the remaining figures in the OFFICIAL REPORT.
