HC Deb 01 April 1947 vol 435 c1814
3. Mr. Thomas Macpherson

asked the Secretary of State for War if he is now prepared to make arrangements to supply the last known address of officers or men who have incurred debts with tradesmen during their military service in this country, so that traders can take legal proceedings for recovery of these debts.

The Financial Secretary to the War Office (Mr. John Freeman)

In the absence of any legal obligation to furnish addresses for the purpose in question, my right hon. Friend sees no reason to depart from the long standing practice, which is to withhold the address, but offer to forward a letter. I understand this is also the general practice of large business organisations with employees both at home and abroad.
