HC Deb 01 April 1947 vol 435 c1832
51. Wing-Commander Roland Robinson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Co-operative Wholesale Society's Bank has yet responded to his request that it should reduce its interest rates and fall into line with the Government's cheap-money policy.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr. Dalton)

I have nothing to add to what was said on this subject on 5th March by my right hon. Friend the Financial Secretary to the Treasury.

Wing-Commander Robinson

Is the Chancellor of the Exchequer still unable to secure the loyalty of his political friends for his financial policy?

Mr. Dalton

I am very much surprised at the hon. and gallant Gentleman trying to introduce politics into these banking questions.

Sir William Darling

Is this the first occasion in which the right hon. Gentleman has failed in his cheap money policy?
