HC Deb 01 April 1947 vol 435 c1836
62. Mr. Garry Allighan

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has now completed his inquiries into the allegations made by the hon. Member for Gravesend on 8th October, 1946, that certain football clubs were failing to pass over to the public the full benefit of the reduction in entertainment tax on cheap sections of stands; and whether he will make a statement.

64. Mr. York

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will consider exempting from purchase tax all fuel-saving appliances which have been approved by Government Departments.

Mr. Dalton

The hon. Members will not expect me to anticipate my Budget Statement.

Mr. Allighan

While I do not expect the Chancellor to anticipate his next Budget speech, may I ask if he is aware that his last Budget speech contained concessions to the public which many football clubs are not passing on? What steps will he take to enforce this?

Mr. Dalton

The defaulters are nearly all Scottish and they are being approached.

Mr. Allighan

May I ask the Chancellor if he is not aware that that is a little slur on Scotland, as at least Luton and Charlton are also involved?
