§ 5. Mr. Morleyasked the Minister of Education how many huts, for the purpose of raising the school-leaving age, have been asked for by local education authorities; whether the one-fifth of the huts required for this purpose had been erected by 31st August, 1946, in accordance with the programme envisaged in Administrative Memorandum 98; and, if not, how many huts had been erected by that date.
§ Miss WilkinsonThe programmes so far received from local education authorities cover 3,804 classrooms and 1,571 practical rooms. No huts had been finally completed by 31st August, 1946. That date, however, has no significance except for programme purposes, none of the huts being required for use by the extra age group until August, 1947. Contracts have already been placed by the Ministry of Works for 1,155 classrooms and 373 practical rooms.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerIs the Minister satisfied that the arrangements are so far ahead that we may envisage the date of the raising of the school-leaving age with equanimity and satisfaction?
§ Miss WilkinsonOh, quite.
