HC Deb 31 October 1946 vol 428 cc782-3
59. Mr. Douglas Marshall

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that purchase tax is being claimed on sailing vessels of which delivery was taken before they were exempted from tax; and whether he would be prepared to exempt these vessels also.

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. Glenvil Hall)

I have been asked to reply. My right hon. Friend has given directions that the tax collected before this exemption came into force should be refunded, provided the benefit is passed on to the customer.
