HC Deb 30 October 1946 vol 428 c595
24. Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether it is the policy of his Department to include in the calculation of a man's period of service time spent on the R.A.F. short university course at Cambridge.

Mr. de Freitas

No, Sir.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Is it a fact that these men while on this course cannot leave Cambridge without being subjected to R.A.F. disciplinary measures? If that is so, is there any good reason why this course should not count as service?

Mr. de Freitas

I would like notice of that first point about leaving Cambridge. These men were certainly not embodied, they were not paid, and they remained civilians, but I will certainly look into that point; I was not aware of it.
