HC Deb 29 October 1946 vol 428 cc436-7
37. Mr. Spence

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power to what extent the number of persons engaged in the administration of petrol rationing has increased during the last three months.

Mr. Shinwell

For the three months ended September, 1946, the difference between the highest and lowest aggregate figure is 67. This covers both headquarters and regional offices, and there is at present a downward trend.

Mr. Spence

Is the Minister aware that the present petrol stock positions show that the whole of this control should be done away with?

Mr. Shinwell

That is another question from the one which is on the Order Paper.

Lieut.-Colonel Sir Thomas Moore

How much has been saved by this increase of staff?

Mr. Shinwell

That is the sort of Question which should be put down.

Mr. Glossop

Will the Minister say whether there is any need at all for increasing the staff to 67?

Mr. Shinwell

Because there is work to do.
