HC Deb 29 October 1946 vol 428 c450
65. Mr. Douglas Marshall

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what is the number of staff employed in the Inland Revenue Department qualified to draw overtime; what overtime was paid to this staff during the last six months; and what is the average salary of a man aged 21 years in this Department.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

Approximately 40,000 on 1st October, 1946. £285,777 was paid in the six months ended 3oth June, 1946. I regret that I cannot furnish an estimate of average salary of particular ages.

66. Mr. D. Marshall

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury why the basic wage in the Inland Revenue Department is calculated at 42 hours a week in London and 44 hours a week outside London.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

Differences in the hours of the working week between London and the provinces do not affect the basic rates of pay of members of the same established grade.
