HC Deb 28 October 1946 vol 428 c266
35. Sir Ian Fraser

asked the President of the Board of Trade what imports of wallpaper he has recently authorised.

Sir S. Cripps

No licences have been granted recently for commercial imports of wallpaper. Small quantities may, however, be licensed shortly, under the arrangement for token imports.

Sir I. Fraser

Will the right hon. and learned Gentleman consider whether it is really in the interests of this country to import finished goods when we can gain a much better advantage in our balance of payments by importing wood pulp and doing the work here?

Sir S. Cripps

As the hon. Gentleman will know, an explanation has been given of the reason for token imports, and this will only come under the scheme.

Mr. Prescott

What does the right hon. and learned Gentleman mean by saying that no licences have been granted recently?

Sir S. Cripps

I said that no licences have been granted recently for the commercial import of wallpaper. I mean in the last few months.
