HC Deb 28 October 1946 vol 428 cc257-8
II. Mr. Baldwin

asked the Minister of Supply whether the various surplus equipment in military and prisoner-of-war camps in Kenya is being offered for sale by tender en bloc.

Mr. Wilmot

This equipment is disposed of by the East African Governors' Conference, as the Ministry of Supply's agents, through the medium of a Disposals Board, on which the Ministry is represented. The methods of disposal employed include sales by tender or auction in appropriate cases

Mr. Baldwin

Does not the Minister realise that by putting this material up for tender en bloc he is restricting it to big business, and would it not be better to put it up for tender in detail, so that small people would have a chance?

Mr. Wilmot

We are advised by the East African Governors as to the most suitable method of disposal, but I will look into the suggestion which the hon. Member has made.
