HC Deb 28 October 1946 vol 428 c275
44. Mr. Janner

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will exempt the assets of nationals of ex-enemy countries which are held by the Custodian of Enemy Property and which belong to victims of racial, religious and/or other persecution from seizure for reparations by enacting similar provisions to those adopted by the U.S. Government in August, 1946.

Sir S. Cripps

I am calling for further information as to the conditions to be fulfilled in cases falling within the discretionary provisions adopted by the United States Government and will consider the general questions involved in the light of this information when received. Meanwhile, Trading with the Enemy Department will consider sympathetically any individual application on behalf of a refugee from Germany who has property in this country vested in the Custodian, and who is in financial difficulties.
