HC Deb 28 October 1946 vol 428 c277
47. Mr. N. Birch

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how many political officers are employed by the Control Commission for Germany; what their functions are; and what qualifications are required for the appointments.

Mr. J. Hynd

In the British element of the Control Commission for Germany there is no such rank as political officer. There is a Political Division, dealing with general political work and relations with German political parties and trade unions. The qualifications needed are knowledge and experience of the kind acquired in the Foreign Service, of which most senior officers of the Division are members.
