HC Deb 28 October 1946 vol 428 cc286-7
69. Mr. Driberg

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if, in view of the widespread misunderstanding in the U.S.A. of the contributions made by British and U.S. Forces, respectively, to the liberation of Burma from the Japanese, he will arrange for the widest possible circulation in the U.S.A. of the official account of the Burma campaign published by the C.O.I.; how many copies of this book have been despatched to the British Information Services in the U.S.A. for distribution to persons on their mailing list or otherwise; and what steps have been taken to secure U.S. publication for this book.

Mr. Mayhew

Yes, Sir. The text has been submitted to American publishers, but has not been accepted for publication in the United States of America. In those circumstances, 5,000 copies are being despatched to the British Information Services for distribution, and more copies will be sent if the demand arises. Copies have already been sent to the British Information Services and to His Majesty's Consulates in the United States of America with instructions to give the book the necessary advance publicity.
