§ 31. Mr. George Wallaceasked the Minister of Education what is the general 21 policy of her Department regarding the use of schools out of hours by political and other bodies in areas where facilities for meetings and other functions do not exist or are inadequate.
§ Miss WilkinsonMy authority is not required for the use of schools for public meetings. Subject to the statutory provisions about the use of school rooms at Parliamentary and local government elections, the letting of schools for political and other meetings is a matter for the local education authorities and school managers or governors.
§ Mr. WallaceWould the right hon. Lady give some attention to this problem because the treatment by some local authorities is very patchy and some are not using their common sense?
§ Miss WilkinsonI am always willing to look into individual cases, but this is the job of the local education authority.
