HC Deb 23 October 1946 vol 427 cc1646-7
26. Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether he will consider the making of grants to sea cadet units in respect of boys between the ages of 12 and 14.

Mr. Dugdale

No, Sir. The minimum age of enrolment in the Sea Cadet Corps is 14, and I regret that it is accordingly not possible to make grants to units in respect of boys below this age.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

If I send the Parliamentary Secretary particulars of a unit providing first class training for 100 of these boys within 12 miles of this Chamber, will he undertake to come and have a look at it, with a view to seeing whether he can do something to help?

Mr. Dugdale

I will certainly come and look at it.

Mr. Kenneth Lindsay

Will the Parliamentary Secretary stick to his point and refrain from giving this grant, because this excellent organisation can start training perfectly well at the age of 14?
