HC Deb 23 October 1946 vol 427 cc1640-1
16. Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he has yet received a report from the British element of the Allied Control Commission in regard to the suicide of Herman Goering; and if he will give an undertaking that it will be published when received.

Mr. Bevin

I understand that the American authorities have appointed a committee to investigate this matter and that its findings will be reported to the Allied Control Council in Berlin. It will be for the Control Council to decide whether or not the findings of this committee should be made public.

Wing-Commander Hulbert

Will not this report be forwarded to the right hon. Gentleman, and, when he receives it, will he then publish it?

Mr. Bevin

That is not the point put to me in the Question. The authority for publishing or not publishing lies not with His Majesty's Government but with the Allied Control Council in Berlin.

Mr. Wilson Harris

Had not Herman Goering better be left just to stay dead?

Mr. Bevin

It is a rather cold subject now.
