HC Deb 21 October 1946 vol 427 cc1306-7
58. Mr. Osborne

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will publish the report of the sugar beet deputation which recently visited the U.S.A.; and explain what action he proposes to take on the recommendations.

The Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Thomas Williams)

The report will be published as soon as possible. It consists mainly of a technical description of the machinery used in America for sugar beet growing and is at present being studied in detail by the Agricultural Machinery Development Board in consultation with representatives of the Sugar Beet Research and Education Committee and the National Institute of Agricultural Engineering.

Mr. Osborne

Was there anything in the report to help the farmers to grow beet?

Mr. Williams

I think we had better leave it until the various bodies have made their recommendations before we reach any conclusion.
