HC Deb 21 October 1946 vol 427 c1314
83. Mr. W. Shepherd

asked the President of the Board of Trade what quantity of paper has been issued to the Cooperative Wholesale Society in connection with the printing of its first mail order catalogue; and what quantity of paper was used by the Cooperative Wholesale Society for this purpose in the basic year.

Sir S. Cripps

For their advertising circulars (which are now, for the first time, of a mail order type) the Cooperative Wholesale Society are licensed with 10 per cent. of their pre-war annual consumption of paper for this purpose. The consumption in the basic period was 780 tons and the amount for the current twelve months is, accordingly, 78 tons, of which 36½ tons has so far been licensed.

Mr. Shepherd

Has any other organisation had similar favourable treatment?

Sir S. Cripps

Every organisation has had the same treatment.
