HC Deb 17 October 1946 vol 427 c1102
Mr. T. Fraser

I beg to move, in page 10, line 21, at the end, to insert: 'Provided that Section two of that Act (which confers temporary powers for speedy acquisition of land in urgent cases) shall not apply to any compulsory purchase of land under this Section. This Amendment is intended to meet the point raised by the right hon. and learned Gentleman the Member for Hill-head (Mr. J. S. C. Reid) in the Debate on the Second Reading. I gave an assurance then that it was not part of our intention to make use of the "blitz" powers, as he described them, under Section 2 of the Acquisition of Land (Authorisation Procedure) Act, 1946. This Amendment gives legislative effect to the assurance I gave on that occasion.

Mr. J. S. C. Reid

I should like to thank the hon. Gentleman for giving effect to what he said in the Debate on the Second Reading.

Amendment agreed to.

Further Amendment made: In page 10, line 34, at the end, insert: (6) Expenditure incurred by a police authority under this section for any purpose shall be defrayed in like manner as expenditure for such a purpose would have required to be defrayed if this Act had not been passed."—[Mr. T. Fraser.]

Clause, as amended, ordered to stand part of the Bill.

Clauses 12 and 13 ordered to stand part of the Bill.
