HC Deb 16 October 1946 vol 427 c882
32. Mr. Skinnard

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that a clergyman has been appointed as a member of the Executive Council of the Presidency of St. Christopher-Nevis contrary to the constitution of the Presidency; and what steps he proposes to take to regularise the position.

Mr. Creech Jones

I am aware that a minister of the Methodist Church has been appointed to be a member of the Executive Council of the Presidency of St. Kitts-Nevis. I am not aware of any constitutional reason why such an appointment should not be made.

Mr. Skinnard

Has the right hon. Gentleman's attention been drawn to the fact that, owing to the recent federation move in these islands, it was regarded as unfortunate that this opportunity of seeing that a representative of organised opinion in the Colony was appointed was not taken?
