HC Deb 16 October 1946 vol 427 c869
1. Mr. Rees-Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the cost of making the Old Palace at Johore Bahru ready for occupation by His Excellency the Governor-General of Malaya; and from what funds is the expense to be met.

The Secretary of State for the Colonies (Mr. Creech Jones)

The question does not arise as there is no intention at present that the Governor-General should be accommodated in the Old Palace at Johore Bahru.

Mr. Rees-Williams

In view of our long connection with the Settlement of Penang, could my right hon. Friend say whether it is intended that the Governor-General should have his residence in that Settlement?

Mr. Creech Jones

The whole problem of the residence of the Governor-General is now under discussion.
