HC Deb 16 October 1946 vol 427 c901
81. Major Peter Roberts

asked the Minister of Food why he has hindered disabled ex-Servicemen, having cooking qualifications, from opening catering establishments in Sheffield by withholding licences through his Department's offices.

Dr. Summerskill

I am not aware that any applicant in Sheffield, ex-Service or otherwise, has been finally refused a licence in circumstances where there was a public need for a proposed business. If the hon. and gallant Member will let me have details of any case he has in mind, I shall be glad to look into it.

Major Roberts

Is the hon. Lady aware that I sent evidence of this kind to her Ministry a week ago?

Dr. Summerskill

I would remind the hon. and gallant Gentleman that I said that no final decision had been made. If he is referring to Mr. Brown, he must tell him that his next step is to appeal.
