§ 4. Mr. Anthony Greenwoodasked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he will consider instituting a scheme by which sales representatives will be entitled to a petrol allowance, assessed in accordance with the importance of their trade or industry to the national effort, instead of getting, as at present, the same basic petrol allowance whatever the nature of the business in which they are engaged.
§ Mr. ShinwellThe supplementary petrol allowances granted to sales representatives and commercial travellers are subject to a maximum quantity, which takes into 994 consideration the horse power of the vehicle used. Where, however, a sales representative is engaged on work of special national importance, he may be granted an increased allowance.
§ Mr. GreenwoodDoes the Minister regard work in connection with equipment for the rehousing of the people and the maintenance of the cotton industry as of national importance?
§ Mr. ShinwellOffhand—I should say, "Yes, Sir."
