HC Deb 20 November 1946 vol 430 cc835-6
23. Major Mott-Radclyffe

asked the Secretary of State for Air how many Transport Command flights operate weekly from the United Kingdom on the Mediterranean routes.

Mr. de Freitas

Seven which end in the Mediterranean area, and 13 which pass through on the way to India and the Far East.

Major Mott-Radclyffe

Is Transport Command to be asked to operate passenger services, for which its planes were not designed, for yet another winter?

Mr. de Freitas

I could not say that; it depends on how far civil aviation expands. There are, and there must be, contractions in the services as the Royal Air Force contracts.
