§ 31. Mr. Driberg
asked the Secretary of State for Air if he will investigate the recent action of the commanding officer, No. I Wing, No. 4 School of Technical Training, R.A.F., St. Athan, in fining some 200 airmen 9d. each for breakages of crockery, for which most of them were not responsible, and threatening those who objected to paying this sum with stoppage of week-end passes and other loss of privileges; whether such action was in accordance with regulations; and how the money so collected was accounted for.
§ Mr. de Freitas
I have had a report on this case. It shows that the action taken was in accordance with the Air Force Act and the King's Regulations, which provide for collective charges in cases where public property has been destroyed. The money recovered has been credited to public funds under the normal procedure.
