HC Deb 19 November 1946 vol 430 cc685-6
61. Sir Stanley Reed

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proportion of the volume of imports in 1946 was paid for by exports, visible and invisible; and what proportion was met from credits in Canada and other countries of the British Commonwealth and Empire and the U.S.A.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

This information will be available in the New Year.

Sir S. Reed

Will the hon. Gentleman make it clear to all classes in the country that dollar credits are not inexhaustible, and are merely a means of tiding over between now and the readjustment of our own economy?

Mr. Glenvil Hall

I hope that is generally understood.
