HC Deb 06 November 1946 vol 428 c1364
13. Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether his attention has been called to the frequent use in congested traffic areas of R.A.F. transport vehicles of a length far exceeding that permitted to commercial vehicles, for the purpose of carrying parcels and miscellaneous goods and not for their original purpose of transporting aeroplane fuselages, etc.; and if, in view of the congestion which is caused to traffic, he will ensure that the use of these vehicles is limited to essential purposes.

Mr. de Freitas

We received a complaint from the police in June and, as a result, an Air Ministry Order was issued providing for R.A.F. vehicles to be routed away from congested streets whenever possible. To avoid waste, particularly on return journeys, these large trailers are not limited by regulation to carrying aircraft fuselages.
