HC Deb 06 November 1946 vol 428 c1373
26. Mr. Baldwin

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies 'what geological surveys are being made in Kenya.

Mr. Creech Jones

Small surveys in the Kitui, Nyeri and South Kavirondo districts and other promising areas are at present being carried out, or are about to be undertaken. These surveys form part of the proposals for full scale geological surveys contained in the recently published report of the Kenya Development Committee. Unfortunately, the work is severely restricted by the difficulty of recruiting geological staff. I would remind the hon. Member that in the allocation of the Colonial Development and Welfare monies provision is made for a central service for geological surveys, and steps have been taken for the appointment of a director, in consultation with whom the new organisation will be built up.
