HC Deb 05 November 1946 vol 428 c1201
35. Mr. Erroll

asked the Minister of Labour how many resettlement advice centres there are at present in Great Britain; how the volume of work which they are doing at present compares with the volume six months ago; and how much the centres are costing at the present time.

Mr. Isaacs

There are at present 367 resettlement advice offices in Great Britain, the cost of which is estimated at roughly £340,780 per annum. In the four weeks ended 27th September, 1946 (the latest period for which figures are available), 115,407 inquiries were dealt with at resettlement advice offices, that is, about 28,850 per week. This compares with about 38,190 per week six months ago.

Mr. Erroll

Can the Minister say how long he thinks that the need for the service will exist?

Mr. Isaacs

I cannot say how long these offices will exist, but I hope that the service provided by these offices will continue to be a part of the employment exchange service.
