HC Deb 05 November 1946 vol 428 cc1210-1
48. Mr. Gammans

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will make a statement on the seizure by the Russians of German civilians travelling on high priority passes from a British train from Bad Oeynhausen to Berlin.

Mr. J. Hynd

No Germans have been seized by Soviet soldiers from the train travelling from Bad Oeynhausen to Berlin, but on the night of 18th-19th October Soviet soldiers entered the train from Berlin to Bad Oeynhausen at Marienborn station and removed 12 Germans, on the ground that they were not in possession of inter-zonal passes signed by the Soviet authorities. After search and interrogation the Germans were released, and arrived back in Berlin on 23rd October. Inter-zonal passes are not required when persons are travelling in a specially sealed portion of this train. Instructions have been issued to prevent any similar incident in future.
