HC Deb 28 May 1946 vol 423 c983
48. Mr. Cocks

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he is aware of the concern caused by the fact that responsible positions in the police force of Hanover are occupied by well-known Nazis; and what action he intends to take in the matter.

Mr. R. J. Taylor

A special investigation of the Hanover police' is now in process. The chief of police has been arrested, the chief of the personnel department dismissed and the remaining officials are being scrutinised.

Mr. Janner

Will the hon. Member see that very careful inquiry is made into the antecedents of all members of the police force in Germany, particularly in view of the very serious effect any wrong step in an appointment would have on the population there?

Mr. Taylor

I shall be pleased to bring that to the notice of my hon. Friend.
